Paleakastro, Crete, Greece -- 2000 Season
Several examples of site finds from seasons 1994-2000
After the pottery sherds have been catalogued and conserved, then the illustrators reconstruct the artefact visually for publication and documentation. Every find is drawn -- from a 3cm long fragment of a conical cup, to fully restored stirrup jars and amphorae. I love working with pieces that have painting on them, its a delightful challenge to reconstruct the exuberant Minoan motifs.

It was an intense experience to illustrate two sets of the remains of Minoan "Horns of Consecration" at the end of the season. They are one of the premiere symbols of Minoan Crete. Below is a photograph of an extant set of horns and one side of a PK set.
