Position Sought      Scientific Illustrator. (Analyze component information of archaeological materials and prepare detailed science illustrations, reconstructions, and written observations of the artefacts for publication in scholarly journals.)

Skills      Highly skilled at pen-and-ink drafting, including scientific, topographical and architectural illustration. Competent at technical photography, pencil drawing from life, including portraiture. Skilled in ceramics, with a strong working knowledge of formation and firing techniques and clay types. Extremely precise eye for color and color matching. Strong sense of composition, good grasp of mechanical/spatial relationships.

                                Experienced at academic writing for publication, including editing, and copyediting. Familiar with graphic production and layout processes using Microsoft Word, Adobe Photoshop 7.0, and other software tools on Microsoft Windows and Apple Macintosh systems.

                                I have a diverse work background and skill set, but am most drawn to scientific illustration. I find exacting, creative, detail work extremely satisfying. Research and writing also appeal to me.

1998–1999        Scientific illustrator and research assistant for PhD candidate in geoarchaeology at the University of Washington, working on cross-cultural iconographic references to the “Mistress of the Beasts” archetype from Paleolithic through classical times.

1997        Burke Museum, Seattle WA: Volunteer paleontology assistant, Dept. of Geology. Prepared fossil materials, developed exhibits, fielded science questions for K–12 educational tours.

1997        Catalog illustration, layout, and copyediting for Sweaters of Tuscany, Inc., Seattle, WA.

1996–present        Artwork for Widdershins, a free paper in Seattle, WA (also writing and editorial work).

1985–1986        Illustrator and designer, University of Montana Graphic Design Studio, Missoula, MT. Worked on outside contracts as well as graphic design for university publications.

                             Artwork for MontPIRG newsletter; a public interest research group.

1983–1986        Paleontology field assistant, site supervisor, surveyor for Dr. John Horner, Curator of Paleontology; assistant to Curator of Accessions, Museum of the Rockies, Bozeman, MT. Conducted field surveys, excavations, and field and lab preparation of fossil material. Performed background research on, inventoried, and cataloged museum collections.

1986        Field assistant to Dr. David Weishample of Johns Hopkins University, on site, Blackfoot Reservation, MT. Conducted surveys and excavations; prepared reports and site maps.

1986        Independent study project (MSU) in use wear analysis of lithic artifacts, using pen-and-ink illustrations as documentation. Created comparable illustrations for colleagues’ articles.
