Floating Earth Coven

Our family coven formed in 2002 as Orca formally spun from his parent "Coven of the Wildewood",  a C.O.G. trad from San Diego, California. Orca earned his Third Degree from Wildewood in ____, and moved to the Pacific Northwest in ____.  Along with his twin brother ____,  and his then partner ____ he participated in producing and priesting in many years worth of ATC festivals: the Spring Mysteries and Hecate's Sickle.  Iothalassa spent her child and early adulthood in the mountains and so was always a "natural pagan", born of bohemian-hippy parents.  She dedicated at sixteen beneath a full moon, but had several initiations among the woods-faring gyspy folk and native peoples in the mountains. When she moved to Seattle in 1989 after years rambling and worshiping in the mountains of Montana and on the beaches and rainforests of Puerto Rico, she help form a women's moon circle that lasted but about a year... never the less, it was the first time she was able to see what a tremendous and satisfying work it was to help teach and work within a group of people. Her friend from PR,  Gio moved to Seattle and noticed a teaching coven that was having student interviews. After being a witch basically alone for over ten years it was time to learn to work in a coven. They were accepted as students with the Sylvan Grove -- Iothalassa took dedication and initiation into Sylvan Grove after a year and a day, and Gio dedicated to the Craft in another direction. The dedications/initiations for SG have always taken place on the initial evening before the beginning of the Spring Mysteries.  It was a culminating experience and formed a dedication to the ongoing production of the Mysteries for others and for the gods.

Well, of course, that's where we met.  And a few festivals later payed our respects in the Aphrodite shrine. And a year  later in 2001  were handfasted by the HPs Lady Sylvana and HP Blackcat of SG in a misty (uhm, read "rainy") Northwest March afternoon in a mountain meadow among friends and family. Perfect! Our family now has at least four direct generations of Pagan faith in it that we know of, and includes family on both sides, plus step families.  When Orca spun from Wildewood, he and Iothalassa formed Floating Earth Coven -- we imagined that while as avid gardeners, we are also dearly tied to the sea (hmm, hence our magickal names) and a most holy symbol was that of the good earth floating in the cosmos, an island in the sea of creation.  Along about this time though, Orca dedicated to the Sylvan Grove as well, then when it was time for our dear friends Melanie Fire Salamander and Bestia Mortale to hive off from the SG, we hived with them and helped form the Green Star Grove in 2003.

So then, yes, it does seem a bit strange to be High Priest and Priestess of one coven and (very) happy members of another, we do seem to make it work. The Pagan Path Page is a very small effort to keep abreast of the seasons on the web, and seems especially important now that we are by circumstance some distance away from family, friends, and covenfolk (wow, they are pretty much the same!). No, it's not a Wicca 101 site, it's not even consistent... it's the seeds that are planted, the sprouts under the sun and stars that grow, the wheat that is reaped, the joy of the gods dancing, the kiss upon the brow, the smile in the eyes of your love, the sense of earth in your hands and rain upon the land. It's both simple and sublime... It's dedicated to the sacred.

Peace and Blessings,

Orca and Iothalassa
