Yule 2004

Passila
Hello friends -- much time has passed between then and now (spring to summer and autumn) -- an incredibly busy summer. We are most happy to pass on that the garden continues to produce vegetables and flowers, including some bunches of sweet and pretty "Candice" grapes that were offered to Dionysos during the Sylvan Traditions' Dionysia. We're hoping that the frost holds off just a bit until more of the heritage tomatoes and hot peppers ripen; we've a bumper crop of the volunteer pumpkins and sunflowers so far, plus all of the herbs are producing lovely. I think that the many marigolds have done a fine job of repelling bugs this year as well. Hmm, so much for the Farm Report.
We did a lot of travelling this summer; back and forth from the desert to various Puget Sound friends; to Montana's Rocky Mountains and Glacier Park; my brother Thor and his partner's place in Indiana, and the fete' of fete's for gamers ': GenCon in Cincinnati (nice dice, hail Chthulu!) -- including the 20th anniversary of D&D party (heya, to our friend Eric!). And then on to the old family homes and stomping grounds of Orca's in Ohio, his brother and our sister-in-law and kids', and being able to take some really nice cemetery photos in nearby Kentucky. See a small gallery of those here.
Our family reached out and handfasted each other this summer -- Orca's brother Joel and his partner in love Heather did it up good on August 7.

There were some very unhappy notes to the summer as well. We spent a great deal of ourselves in making the decision to help our dear 15 year old feline friend Feather Dana pass over to the Summerlands. She had suffered bravely through two years of kidney failure and was ready to be kissed by the Lady on August 14, 2004. Thank you Bast, Sekhmet, Freya and All for blessing her and our life with her. She was a true lady, we loved her dearly and will miss her with all our heart. She is laid to rest in the Earth on the beautiful Green Star Grove's covenstead.

Then quite suddenly one of our Sylvan Tradition sisters Night Owl made the journey over on September 11, 2004. From Seattle area Pagan paper Widdershins: Sharma had boundless energy and purpose. She said yes to everything she encountered in life. Among other things, she was a Registered Nurse, a massage therapist, a nutritional and stress counselor and life coach. More than anything else, Sharma was a dedicated seeker of truth, a humanist and a political activist. From her membership in C.O.R.E., her work on the Helix, and her involvement with the Open Door Clinic flying squad in the sixties to her attendance at Precinct and County caucuses as a Dean delegate this summer, and with literally hundreds of political, spiritual and community projects in between, Sharma remained a dedicated optimist, a determined innocent, finding and promoting truth, beauty and growth with her many talents and her incredible tenacity - wherever her life took her. She leaves a huge hole in the hearts and lives of so many.
Sharma was such a tremendous force in activism -- if she left before casting her votes this election, it must have been for something really special! Good Journeys and Blessings Sharma.

Happy news! We soon decided to adopt a new kitten into the family from the Humane Society; giving the opportunity of life and love to the beautiful black tortoise shell Bella Luna. She's into the black and all kinds of shiny.

Also, we're happy to announce that three of Green Star Grove's coven members, Orca, Iothalassa GreenFox, and Orion were elevated to First Degree in the Sylvan Tradition on September 15th! Yea, it only took me ten years to get around to it! (Check out my degree project at http://www.greenstargrove.org)
